Theatre Preview: 2016 The Musical @ The Room Above Theatre  & The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

by Polly Hember

“The year the world went mad”

Evolution Theatre Company is building up for it’s debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and will come to Bristol with their new show 2016 The Musical for an exclusive preview at the Room Above Theatre. Looking back on the turbulent year, this musical is a satirical double-take exploring what actually happened to the world last year. Taking their audience back to the madness, the politics, the trauma and the mundane – set in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future, they tell the tale of how the world’s end commenced with the problematic 2016 in ludic, musical fashion.

Behind the satirical script and hilarious songs are the new writing duo writer and lyrists, Jamie Dodd and composer, Isaac Lawrence Thompson in this student-run production.

With songs like “This is Gonna be a Great Year” and “I’m Not Racist But”, a tap-dancing David Cameron, a bitter pageant queen Melania Trump and much more, this is set to be a whirling rollorcoaster of fake news, scandal, crazy politics with many playful and hilarious twists and turns. Make sure you catch 2016 The Musical at the Fringe Festival if you miss the exclusive Bristol preview, definitely one to watch out for!
