Music Spotlight: Body Clocks

by Polly Hember

Body Clocks, comprised of Joe Craven and Josef Kaspar, are an electronic Bristol-based duo, who have recently released their debut single 'Still Life' and will be hosting a monthly electronic takeover at Take 5 in Stokes Croft.

Ambient, experimental and hugely enjoyable – Body Clocks present a beautifully textured soundscape, with an electronic backbone that is fleshed out with synth, looped beats, found sounds, tinkling keyboards, soft bells, guitar and double bass. The experimental instrumental single is pensive and mellow, yet energetically driven forward by its heavy techno influences. The result is a shimmering cacophony of notes that make for an easy listening experience that is both relaxing and immersive.

Their track ‘Still Life’ is available to download for free over on their website. Following the release of their single, they are scheduled to take over the cellar at Take 5 Café once a month for a night of live music and electric DJ sets. A sweet Stokes Croft café by day, and a lively music and private party venue by night – Body Clocks will be holding the first takeover event Afterglow on Friday 22nd of April.

They will be performing live, as well as hosting electronic instrumentalist Kayla Painter, whose live performances involve visual projections alongside the surging techno rhythms. Muied Lumens are also playing a special one-off show to indulge in their dark synth sounds, returning together after 13 years away from the live circuit. After these live acts, DJ sets from the recently formed PAN:INC and Body Clocks themselves will carry on until late.

Judging by Body Clocks' single, their unique and perfectly balanced ear for rhythm should make for a brilliant night. A great way to see the latest in the electronic music scene in vibrant Bristol, get ready to dance the night away. Early bird tickets are available from Body Clock’s website (make sure you get that free download while you’re there!) or if you’re nearby Stokes Croft, pop in to Take 5 and grab a coffee and a ticket in person to avoid the cheeky £1 online booking fee.
